The West-Way Club rule

Our club rules emphasize respect for personal space and fellow dancers through courteous behavior, appropriate attire, and responsible drinking. Key rules include avoiding unwanted advances, not standing still on the dance floor, staying aware of your surroundings to prevent collisions, and cleaning up after yourself. General conduct

  • Be respectful and polite: Treat others with kindness and courtesy.
  • Avoid harassment: Do not make unwanted advances or harass other club-goers.
  • Drink responsibly: Know your limits and alternate alcohol with water.
  • Dress appropriately: Dress "to impress" in cocktail attire on Saturday and Sunday dance parties. No shorts No Hat at all parties. Business casual is accepted at the Friday Salsa & Bachata party.
  • Keep the area clean: Tidy up your space before leaving.
  • Cameras: Our club staff might take photo or film the dance floor for advertisement purpose. If you have any concern, and do not want to be filmed, please let the staff know. Visitors at the club should not take photo or record someone else without their consent.

Dance Floor etiquette

General conduct

  • Mind your space: Be aware of the people around you to avoid bumping, stepping on them, or taking up too much space, especially in crowded situations.
  • No drinks or food: Never have drinks, glasses, or cans on the dance floor.
  • Don't walk through dancers: If a dance is in progress, walk around the perimeter of the floor instead of through the middle of the dancers.
  • Keep the floor clear: When you're not dancing, step off the floor so others can use the space.
  • Apologize for accidents: If you bump into someone or knock over a drink, apologize immediately and offer to replace the drink.
  • Avoid advanced moves: Leave lifts, tricks, and aerials for performance settings; they are unsafe on a social dance floor.
  • Practice good hygiene: Freshen up and be mindful of personal hygiene before dancing.
  • Keep it clean: Don't leave anything behind on the dance floor.

Partner interactions

  • Respect personal space: Be courteous and respect your partner's personal space.
  • Don't correct your partner: Avoid unsolicited teaching or correcting your partner's moves. Let instructors do the teaching.
  • Dance to their level: Adjust your dancing to match your partner's skill level.
  • Ask politely and accept "no" gracefully: If you ask someone to dance, be polite. If they decline, accept it gracefully and don't persist.
  • Thank your partner: Always thank your partner at the end of the dance.

Line of dancing

  • Follow the line of dance: For partner dancing, the "line of dance" is typically counter-clockwise around the floor. Faster dancers have the right of way on the outside lane.
